Master the Art of ReadingMona Lisa

“Master the Art of Reading” this summer at the Lincoln Public Library and explore the worlds of art, books, and more. Get in touch with your creative side! The 2009 Summer Reading Program is open to adults ages 18 and older, and offers programs, prizes, book discussions, hands-on creative opportunities, and special events.

Registration begins on June 22nd.

How  to Participate

  1. Sign up at the Reference Desk.
  2. Read any  book(s) you choose.
  3. Fill out the brief review form.  Return completed form to reference staff to  be entered into a raffle pool.
  4. Any time you attend a “Master the Art of Reading" event, fill out a review form   to be  entered into the raffle. (You must participate in the  reading program to be eligible for the raffle.)   

Please Note* Scavenger hunt clues and extra review forms are at the Reference Desk.  Registration is required for all events.

Discover the unique sound of the classical guitar with its warm and sweet intimacy at the Lincoln Public Library. As part of the Adult Summer Reading Program, “Master the Art of Reading,” renowned classical guitarist, Joseph Halajko, will entertain us with a performance that will include an array of musical styles. Join us at the Lincoln Public Library on July 16th, Thursday, at 6:30 pm to feed your senses and enjoy the beautiful sounds of the very talented Joseph Halajko. Many good movies get their inspiration from books, however, oftentimes the only thing shared are their titles. Lincoln Public Library, as part of the adult Summer Reading Program “Master the Art of Reading,” is giving you the opportunity to compare a recently popular book to its film adaptation.
You are asked to read at your leisure Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracey Chevalier. On July 21st, Tuesday, at 6:00 pm, the Library will show the 2003 Lionsgate film starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson. Following the movie, we will discuss how closely the movie directors and scriptwriters followed the original work. Fruit FaceLearn How to Make Edible Art
How would you like to come up with some spectacular centerpieces or decorations for your next get-together that will have all your guests talking? On July 23rd , Thursday, at 6:00 pm at the Lincoln Public Library, you will learn how to create dazzling “Edible Art.” Students from the Johnson & Wales Culinary School will show you the steps for making stunning centerpieces or appetizers out of fresh vegetable and fruit. BallerinasHeritage Ballet
In celebration of its first annual adult summer reading program, “Master the Art of Reading,” Lincoln Public Library will graciously host a stunning dance performance choreographed and presented by members of Heritage Ballet of Lincoln. The beautiful dancers will show off their exquisite talent in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Come and experience the energizing power that dance will provide. Forget all your problems while you watch these amazing dancers perform on Thursday, August 13th, at 6:00 pm.
